In what seems like a bad dream nowadays, yet another Long Island Bowling Center will be going out of business sooner rather than later.
The East Islip Lanes Bowling Center located at 117 E. Main Street in East Islip, Long Island, NY has officially been sold. In a memo received by ownership and currently circulating around social media, it is stated that the center has been sold to Benchmark Senior Living, an operator of Senior Living Communities, and will be redeveloped into a Senior Living Community.
The memo goes on to say that there will be a meeting on February 15, 2022 at the Marriott Hotel in Islip where representatives of the new owning company will share with the community plans on the new development.
In other news received from an anonymous source, it is speculated that this same Benchmark company purchased a few other housing developments in recent times, however because of the community backlash received, the purchase fell through and was reneged. The same source is urging the bowling community to attend the February 15th meeting to express their displeasure with this situation in an attempt to keep the bowling center around.
That same source continued on by saying that the center cannot officially be redeveloped for 3 years due to leasing agreements, however this cannot be corroborated.
The current proprietor of the center, Michael Gibiser, could not be reached for comment, however the memo seems official and the word is spreading like wildfire around the community.
